It’s amazing how much crossover work is neglected in other media. When the Alien vs. Predator comic book series was released in the early ’90s, it received a rapturous reception and was a critical and commercial success, but the 2004 film Alien vs. Predator ” was completely inadequate. Admittedly, the latter was cheaply made, with a disastrous storyline and a director who set the concept back somewhat (I’m still not sure he knew what the Predator was supposed to look like). Of course, not in the form of a bulky wrestler) (we got there). But even before its release, critics were sharpening their knives.
When it comes to comics, there’s a persistent cliché of fans sitting around and debating who’s the strongest among different heroes from different universes. Such as who wins against whom in a fight. So perhaps the concept of crossovers between series is baked into our DNA.
In any case, Turtles of Grayskull is exactly the kind of story we never expected to see, with the worlds of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Masters of the University colliding in an epic, timeless world. It gives us exactly the type of crazy multiverse crossover we thought we’d never see. .
While the story in this second issue is incredibly timely and therefore not as straightforward a read as the first issue, one thing that remains consistent is the amazing artwork by Freddie Williams II. It’s as if he’s been waiting his whole life to draw this series, and you can feel the passion and creativity that oozes from each page.
It’s an absolute visual feast, and while the script here is a little too convoluted for my tastes, I’m sure the various time and space jumps will pay off and it will start to come together.
