Elon Musk’s xAI announced its AI chatbot Grok in late 2023, and it has since been available only to premium users of X (formerly Twitter). Now, a year later, Grok appears to be making it free for X users in some regions, TechCrunch reports.
This news comes from multiple reports on X by researchers and users who discovered the Grok update. According to X user Swak, there are rules about who can access Grok for free and how much they can use it. First, your account must be at least 7 days old and have a phone number associated with it. Free users are also reportedly limited in the number of things they can do in two hours. Within that time frame, you can ask 10 questions for the Grok-2 model and 20 questions for the Grok-2 mini model. Additionally, free users only get three image analyzes each day.
The Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini models are relatively new and will be released later this summer. Grok-2 is xAI’s most advanced AI chatbot to date, pulling real-time information directly from X, but the company claims the mini version “offers a balance between speed and answer quality” .
