As I listened, I could imagine each scene vividly coming to mind. When I wrote Domino, I envisioned her as a natural performer who loved to dance and sing. I could clearly hear her voice, sweet like a mother’s, yet sharp like a devil. I was almost horrified by how perfectly Mimi captured her, as if she read my mind. I was shocked by the high quality of NIIS’ music videos. Everything is done perfectly! I love how the visuals reflect Lovesick’s style while still allowing the band to tell their own story. Hats off to everyone involved, I forgot how many times I watched it! ”
“We were writing a song called “Lovesick,” and the guitarist started playing a dark riff,” Dou said. “I still couldn’t find the words to express it. Actually, I wasn’t feeling very inspired until that night. I was lying in bed with my boyfriend and he asked me to read a book with him. When he pulled out Lovesick, I was immediately in awe. I couldn’t get enough of Domino. She was so beautiful and strong and scary at the same time. It was fragile. Domino’s character conveyed so much power to the audience, and her fragility and imperfection really appealed to me in everything that was going on in the comic. I kept wandering in. “I’ll never let you shatter me” continues throughout the song, because it really feels like no one can shatter the dominoes except maybe her. is. ”
Doe continues: “In the music video, Meriel O’Connell directed it, and she was so great. I told her how much this cartoon meant to me and how I really wanted Domino’s I explained how I wanted the character to be in the story, and she really went above and beyond and took it and ran with it, and I’m grateful that I could live in a world where I was Domino, even for a moment. I can’t wait for Luana’s next chapter.”
Vecchio’s next adventure into the world of love sickness, in the upcoming Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale miniseries, sheds the latex and reveals the haunting and tragic story that led Domino down a dark path in the first place. The story is about a 12-year-old girl named Madeleine who is afraid of growing up. She fears that she will become like the cruel older girls or face the scorn of her devoutly religious mother. Vecchio added about the upcoming Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale miniseries: “Both Domino and I have received so much love since Lovesick was released. This support inspired me to write Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale, a prequel that tells Domino’s teenage story. I feel like female adolescence hasn’t been explored enough, at least not in the way I would like, and growing up as a girl can be a really scary experience. Getting unwanted attention, dealing with changing bodies, discovering love and sexuality. For some of us, these can be real and scary experiences. I’m very proud of this prequel. I feel that I was able to tell this story with the freedom, honesty, and sensitivity that it deserves, both in terms of my creativity and my worldview. I love being able to really express myself and finally bring the under-explored female experience to comics.”
