BioWare told Mass Effect fans to expect a quiet N7 day with no updates regarding new games in development, but today they still have some exciting news for the series. Variety reports that Amazon MGM Studios is developing a TV series based on the sci-fi universe. Rumors that the company was interested in a Mass Effect show first surfaced in 2021, but now it’s official.
Daniel Casey serves as the series’ writer and executive producer. He has action film credits on the screenplay for F9: The Fast Saga, and also contributed to the sci-fi films Kin and 10 Cloverfield Lane. Variety mentions some other executive producers, but details about the cast and the project’s plot are still under wraps. A big part of the appeal of the original Mass Effect games was that players made their own choices about Commander Shepard’s moral compass and love life, so the show has developed within its world rather than following the same path. They’re more likely to want to tell an original story. Trilogy.
Amazon had great success with the TV adaptation of Fallout earlier this year, and it looks like the company intends to continue mining video game material. Amazon is also reviving plans for a live-action “God of War” show after some setbacks.
