Today is that day. Those with $700 more can snag a shiny new PS5 Pro. There are already over 50 enhanced games for the console’s launch, one of which is the extremely fun Baldur’s Gate 3. Developer Larian Studios has announced all the different features available for those who are resistant to Sony’s latest gadget.
Both Quality and Performance modes have been adjusted to “deliver crisp console visuals without sacrificing smooth performance.” Sony’s proprietary PSSR upscaling technology allows Quality mode to run at native 4K at 30 fps, while Performance mode upscales from 1440p to 2160p at 60 fps.
The company has also significantly improved the split-screen multiplayer experience, which may be worth the price of admission for some. In split-screen mode, players can now choose between 30 fps or 60 fps, depending on whether Quality or Performance mode is enabled.
This update for PS5 Pro also includes some minor tweaks to the regular PS5 version of the game. For example, Larian fixed an issue where you could not download or subscribe to a mod when loading into another player’s multiplayer game that had the mod enabled.
For the uninitiated, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a great RPG that prioritizes player choice above all else. This is the closest you’ll ever get to a video game that recreates the feeling of sitting at a table and playing Dungeons and Dragons. You can also have sex with bears.
