Roblox is implementing new safety policies aimed at better protecting the platform’s young users. Last month, we learned that changes were in the works for the game, and we detailed those rules in today’s Roblox developer forum post. The big takeaway is that the majority of Roblox content is not available to players under the age of 13.
The first part of the new Roblox policy is that starting December 3, users under the age of 13 will no longer be able to play, search, or discover unrated experiences on the platform. However, you can view information on the experience details page through a direct link. As such, Roblox is asking creators to ensure that the information on their experience details page (thumbnail, title, description, etc.) meets the company’s standards for all ages or ages 9+.
The second part of the policy restricts access to Roblox’s social hangouts and free-form user-created experiences to users age 13 and older. This rule goes into effect on November 18th.
Roblox has a troubled history when it comes to safety for youth and pre-teen users. Since 2018, at least 20 people have been arrested under the US policy on accusations of kidnapping or abusing child victims they met through Roblox.
