Hori’s officially licensed Steam controller arrives in the US on December 16th

Hori brings officially licensed Steam controllers to the good old US of A. The company has listed the gamepad on Amazon, with a release date of December 16th. Pre-orders are now available and the controller costs $60.

This gamepad for Steam was originally released in October, but only in Japan. It has a large button for bringing up the Steam menu and a joystick touch sensor for motion control. It also comes with a mappable back button. The gamepad connects to your computer or Steam deck via Bluetooth. To that end, it comes with a USB-A Bluetooth receiver.

According to Hori, the Steam Controller will run for about 12 hours on a full charge, but it can also work while charging with a USB cable. Steam’s controller menu also lets you make adjustments like changing stick sensitivity and gyro controls.

There are some slight omissions. The controller doesn’t have a rumble feature, nor does it have a trackpad or headphone jack. If you can overcome these issues, this seems like a great way to handle your ever-growing Steam collection. Hori makes some good stuff.

As for Valve, it discontinued its own Steam Controller in 2019. This gamepad was notable because it can be configured in a myriad of different ways to suit your unique gameplay style.
