The first American-made Polestar EV is now on the road. The Swedish automaker announced Friday that it has delivered the first Polestar 3 SUV to customers in the United States and Canada. The Inflation Control Act of 2022, signed by President Biden, will encourage automakers to build EVs in the United States and provide tax credits to companies and buyers.
Polestar began production of the Polestar 3 at its Ridgeville, South Carolina, plant in August. These vehicles will be supplied to the North American and European markets and will complement the company’s established production in Chengdu, China.

The automaker says deliveries of the Polestar 3 in the U.S. and Canada will accelerate in the coming weeks. If you live near the automaker’s Polestar space (essentially an upscale showroom where the brand is built) in or near a major U.S. city, you can give it a try.
The Polestar 3 is being touted as the company’s coming-out party, expanding the niche reach of its first two models to a more mainstream audience. Engadget’s Tim Stevens tested the EV last month and found the $73,400-plus SUV to be “fantastic” aside from a few early software glitches.
