Meater’s Pro Duo monitors your grill’s temperature with two smart probes and Wi-Fi.

Wireless food probes are handy on the grill and can be manipulated as needed without navigating a maze of cables. In the case of Meater’s recent offerings, these devices allow you to monitor both the food and the grill’s ambient temperature at the same time. Their usefulness is undeniable, but more than one is often needed to get the job done. For example, you may need to cook steaks at different temperatures or precisely monitor the breasts and thighs of your Thanksgiving turkey. Meater already offers a four-probe option with the Pro XL, but at a price of $349.95, it may be overkill for some backyard cooks.

Today, the Traeger-owned company debuted the Meater Pro Duo, a dual-probe model that replaces Bluetooth with Wi-Fi to extend wireless range. The charger connects to your home network and then to Meater Cloud. This will allow you to monitor your food and grill temperature from anywhere on your phone. This dock also has its own battery (charged using USB-C), so you don’t have to worry about replacing the battery. As before, Meeter says a fully charged probe can last up to 24 hours, which is more than enough for even the longest brisket cooks. In case of emergency, a 5 minute charge will give you 2 hours of use.

Meater again opted for stainless steel probes, and both have six temperature sensors (five internal, one ambient). These components allow the probe to withstand scorching temperatures up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. The company says the internal sensor works up to 221 degrees Fahrenheit and is accurate to 0.5 degrees. Like previous Meater models, the probe is waterproof so you can use it for frying and sous vide cooking. But more importantly, it’s also dishwasher safe.

The Pro Duo probe sends cooking data to Meater’s app, allowing you to monitor progress on your phone. The software offers numerous cooking profiles based on the food you are cooking, and a guided cooking system guides you through every step of the process. Estimation algorithms are also at work here, calculating when the food will be ready (including rest periods).

The Meater Pro Duo is currently available for pre-order from the company’s website for $199.95. Shipping will begin on November 15th.
