Thanks to app updates and the magic of iOS 18, Snapchat users will soon be able to launch the app’s camera directly from their iPhone’s lock screen. The latest iPhone operating system update lets you swap out the flashlight and camera on the lock screen. There are also various other useful tools available. These tools will now include the Snapchat camera.
Tapping the button launches Snapchat’s “camera only” mode. Technically, this allows you to create snaps, but there is a big caveat. The lock screen allows users to take photos, but they cannot add filters or post anything. To do so, you need to unlock your phone using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode and open the actual app.
This unique feature will be available through an app update later this week. Of course, you’ll also need to update to iOS 18.0 or the upcoming iOS 18.1. First, press and hold the lock screen and tap “Customize”. Follow the prompts to remove the default options and add the Snapchat camera.
Snapchat users will receive another small update on phones running iOS 18. You can now capture snaps using the volume buttons while the app is open. Simply press and hold either volume button to take a photo or record a video.
