Dark Horse Comics has announced Jumpscare, a new action horror superhero comic by Cullen Bunn and Danny Ruckert. The series is a four-issue series that will be released on February 26th and will tie into the world of Beyond Mortal.

“Without a doubt, jump scares are some of the most fun I’ve ever written a comic,” Bunn said. “I really love this character. She’s everything I love about horror movies, everything I love about superheroes, everything I love about comics, all wrapped up in one character. If you’re a horror fan, you’ll love my new favorite super Get ready to meet your heroes.”

“The jump scare was just absolute mayhem that fueled the explosion for the drawing. I can’t wait for people to see her in all her terrifying glory,” Ruckert added.

MILWAUKEE, Ore. (October 24, 2024) — Dark Horse Comics announces Jumpscares, a new action-horror superhero comic series tied to the Beyond Mortal universe by Cullen Bunn and Danny Ruckert. Written by Bunn, illustrated by Ruckert, and written by Jim Campbell, this four-issue miniseries takes place after the events of the cosmic horror graphic novel Beyond Mortal and introduces readers to new horror superheroes, jumpscares, and more. Introducing.

About jump scares:

Strong, fast, and violent, Jumpscare is a horror fan turned vigilante who can summon every gore-filled weapon in every gore-filled movie you’ve ever seen. With this power, she has become a force for good in Empire City, hacking her way through bad guys and monsters alike. Now her enemies want her dead, and the gangster-turned-monster Grindhouse will do everything he can to bring her down.

Jumpscare #1 (of 4 issues) sneaks into comic shops on February 26, 2025. Issue #1 is available for pre-order now for $3.99 at your local comic shop.

Praise for Beyond Mortal:

“Beyond Mortal is a super fun, raw, thrill ride that any comic book lover or horror lover will love. It’s got it all! A great story with exciting, fresh characters, It really is the start of something special!” —Michael Levy (Terrifier, Stream)

“Horror, heroism, and high art – Beyond Mortal bursts with awesomeness at its seams!” – Patton Oswalt (Minor Threats)

“Oh, wow. I haven’t enjoyed a superhero story like this since Jack Kirby and the early Marvel stuff. It’s golden.” — Joe Lansdale (Sugar on the Bones) )

“This one grabs you by the face, pulls you screaming into the story, and doesn’t let you go until the last page. I can’t say it’s fun, but there are fangs and gore and death and worse. But the heart… It’s definitely a little bit harder.” —Stephen Graham-Jones (I Was a Teenage Slasher, The Indian Lake Trilogy, Earthdivers)

“Beyond Mortal almost got me killed! What a beautiful display of storytelling!” — Rodney Barnes (Kyladelphia, Blacula: The Return of the King)

“With its own original characters and a story that oozes true fear, terrifying monsters, and real stakes from the pages, Beyond Mortal delivered the dark new superhero universe I had been waiting for.” – Adam Green (Writer/Director of Hatchet, Frozen, Unearthed Marrow)

“Only Cullen Bunn could create such a loathsome cosmic Brady gang. Beyond Mortal heralds creepiness and spandex, a battle between old gods and new superheroes.” —Clay McLeod Chapman (What Kind of Mother, Creepshow, Séance in the Asylum)

“Fans of genre mash-ups, readers of horror comics, old…something very old and sinister brought into the world with a different spin, and lovers of superbooks, fans of the new secret wars to be waged. You’re on my list to get this book.”—The Pullbox.
