Vampire Survivors is one of gaming’s biggest success stories in recent years, and developer Ponkle isn’t slowing down. Updates and expansions continue to be released, with the latest being a crossover that makes (almost) all the sense in the world.
Poncle has announced a DLC based on its biggest inspiration, Castlevania. The studio says it’s a “full-throated celebration of Konami’s iconic series.”
The largest paid Vampire Survivor expansion to date includes over 20 new characters, including Belmont and Bernadeth. There are dozens of additional weapons, including eight more whips. As a fan of the original whip of the game, I’m glad to hear that. Alucard’s sword, spear, and shield are present, as is elemental magic, which is new to Vampire Survivors. There are also over 30 new music tracks, dozens of which Poncle borrows from the Castlevania series.
Additionally, the DLC introduces the biggest Vampire Survivor level yet, with tons of secrets and bosses to chase down. Although this expansion ties into the series about vampires and vampire hunters, Vampire Survivors doesn’t actually feature vampires. Even if we are “literally in Dracula’s castle”. This vampire-less part continues to be pretty interesting.
Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PS4, PS5, and mobile on Halloween (October 31st). It costs $4.
Meanwhile, Poncle has published a very ’90s-style online guest book, perhaps inspired by Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Steam is also hosting a Castlevania sale showcasing other collaborations in the series.
