Bloober Team announced its work so far at today’s Xbox Partner Showcase event. The studio has unveiled a cinematic trailer for its all-new IP, Cronos: The New Dawn.
The developer describes the game as “a twisted time travel story set in an unforgiving post-apocalyptic future.” It’s a third-person survival horror title that looks like it’ll have plenty of action. This is very different from the type of psychological horror games that the studio is cutting edge with, like the Layers of Fear series. We spoke to the Bloober team last year and were told that it was moving away from psychological horror, and this is proof of that.
The trailer primarily consists of a long scene in which the character, who resembles Dead Space’s Isaac and a bit like Bioshock’s Big Daddy, plays chess with a woman, before wandering through an apocalyptic hellscape. There’s some actual gameplay here, but only towards the end of the trailer.
Bloober Team says players will have to successfully navigate its “deadly wasteland” and battle “monstrous abominations.” It also states that the game combines “the eerie atmosphere of horror with the endless possibilities of sci-fi.” The trailer certainly confirms that sentiment.
Despite being announced at the Xbox event, Cronos: The New Dawn isn’t exclusive to Microsoft consoles. It will be available on PC, PS5, and of course Xbox Series X|S systems sometime in 2025. The studio just released a remake of the iconic horror game Silent Hill 2.
