Brooklyn’s BULLETPROOF COMICS will have a big booth at the convention, with special guests.

While NYCC’s comics program leaves a lot to be desired at this year’s convention, comic retailers are still fighting the good fight to make sure the show stays true to its name. One of those sellers is Brooklyn’s Bulletproof Comics. It is owned by Hank Kwon and is always open for conversation and recommendations. He always makes sure the store has a big presence at cons with things like guest autographs and special variant covers, and this year is no exception.

This year, Bulletproof will be selling a new Iron Man comic written by Spencer Ackerman and illustrated by Julius Ohta before it hits stores. Ackerman will be at the venue throughout the weekend, along with creators Deniz Camp, Roy Okupe, Brandon Easton and Damion Scott.

For those looking for unique art items, Damion Scott sells stickers, lithos, and sketchbooks depicting abstract portraits of some of the most influential celebrities of our time. It’s something to behold. Each portrait contains so many details and features perfect composition that you’ll want to buy one so you can see each one at your own pace.

Bulletproof is one of the great survivors of the New York comics scene. Hank is constantly innovating to keep his store on-trend as the market fluctuates and remains profitable with significant changes in merchandise to stay competitive (including a big move into manga and An approach that focuses on selling graphic novels rather than issues has proven to be highly successful).

During the pandemic, the store began streaming auctions that included an inventory of rarer and more valuable comics. Hank continues to auction to this day, a highly anticipated comic meet-up that provides a store for fans who don’t have easy access to it or can’t get the full Bulletproof experience.

If you’re at NYCC this weekend, be sure to stop by booth #4000 and enjoy the atmosphere. Hank is one of the few stores that has managed to bring the same sense of community he fosters at his store’s physical location (2178 Nostrand Ave., Brooklyn) to the convention floor. You’ll want to spend some time there to experience all the joy Hank brings to comics.
