Nightdive Studios brings back the 1996 cult classic 3DO game

Nightdive Studios has reimagined another cult classic game for a modern audience. Killing Time: Resurrected is a refresh of the 1996 original for 3DO and PC. For the uninitiated, the game was notable at the time for its attempt to blend full-motion video (FMV) with a first-person shooter. When it was released at the height of President Bill Clinton’s first term, it truly seemed one of a kind.

Like most Nightdive remakes, Killing Time: Resurrected is more than just a remaster. This title features modern graphics features such as 4K visuals, 144Hz frame capping, and anti-aliasing. The menu art and 2D screen have also been redesigned.

In terms of gameplay, fans will have access to all weapons from both the 3DO and PC versions of the game. In the 1990s, some weapons were exclusive to each platform. There is also a lot of newly discovered content that was cut from the original, such as the pool house stage and shipwreck.

50 live-action FMV sequences have been completely remastered and really stand out in this remake. Players can switch between the original sprites and updated visuals, which is always nice. Nightdive promises “next-level environment texturing, smoother gameplay, and more responsive controls.”

Load times between areas have also been completely eliminated. If I remember correctly, loading times in the 1990s were pretty brutal. Killing Time: Resurrected is available now for PC via Steam. We’re having a launch sale, dropping the title from $25 to $20.

Nightdive Studios has been pumping out all kinds of high-quality remakes and remasters lately. He was responsible for the critically acclaimed remaster of Star Wars: Dark Forces and the complete remake of System Shock. The company was recently acquired by Atari.
