Amazon is reshuffling the God of War series decks. After the success of Fallout, the company wants its next Prime Video game to live up to those high expectations, and it seems like it’s starting fresh. Deadline first reported Thursday that the series’ showrunner and two executive producers have exited the project as the streamer recalibrates “to move in a different creative direction.”
Showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins (Wheel of Time) and executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby (Children of Men and Iron Man) are no longer attached to the project. is not involved. Amazon and Sony reportedly praised the script, suggesting the reorganization is less concerned about quality and more about wanting a new take on the film. According to Variety, Amazon plans to hire a new showrunner and create a new writers’ room to take on the live-action Kratos once again.

The series is an adaptation of the 2018 franchise reboot, which moved the action from Greek mythology to Norse mythology. Amazon’s description should sound familiar to anyone who’s played the game.

Also reportedly staying are PlayStation Productions’ Asad Kizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studios’ Yumi Yang and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.
