Frankenstein New World – The Sea of Forever #1 Cover by Peter Bergting
Since his first appearance in Mike Mignola and Richard Corben’s 2011’s Hellboy: House of the Living Dead, the legendary monster Frankenstein has been a key figure in the Hellboy universe. After the world ends, he even undertakes to help the last humans learn how to survive in the Hollow Earth before sleeping for a thousand years.
In 2022’s Frankenstein: A New World, a young girl named Lilia awakens Frankenstein from his slumber and begins his epic adventure into the surface world. Now, in Frankenstein: The New World – The Eternal Sea, Lilja and Frankenstein continue to navigate the dangerous surface world while being attacked by an ancient and familiar evil.
Golden commented, “I’m incredibly excited about this series!” Hellboy’s world may have ended, but its reverberations are rippling through the New World, as we see in Eternal Sea. This series has many unique stories. At the same time, Frankenstein and Lillia’s journey has a destination, and we can’t wait to take you there!”
Sniegoski added. “When Chris, Mike, Peter and I finished Frankenstein: The New World, we realized there were many more stories to tell…and thankfully, Dark Horse agreed. Frankenstein: The New World – The Eternal Sea explores an evolving post-apocalyptic world filled with beauty, wonder, and a growing evil that is slowly trying to infect this new, primitive world. We’ve had the opportunity to dig deeper and can’t wait for you to see the next chapter in Frankenstein: A New World!”
It culminated with 2019’s BPRD: The Devil You Know, and despite the decision to send Hellboy: The Crooked Man straight to digital, it’s clear the Hellboy universe is still alive and well 30 years later is. The sequel “The Serpent: Ed Gray and England’s Last Battle” will be released on November 27th, the first part “In the Shadow of the Golden Crane” will be released on January 15th, and the sequel to the giant robot “Hellboy” will be released next year. Plus, in the meantime, Mignola and Ben Stenbeck will launch a new Lands Unknown universe at Dark Horse on January 21st with Bowling with Corpses and Other Weird Tales of Lands Unknown It’s planned.
