The last survivor of the apocalypse brought on by the eponymous giant creature, Dale continues his revenge against the centipede that destroyed his world.
Not just the world, but Dale’s world as well. And as he enters the house guns blazing, it’s long past time to get over daddy issues and real heartbreak.
I can’t help but chuckle to myself while reading this truly excellent adaptation of Atari’s early arcade classic, Centipede. Old-school Atari fans who absolutely loathe this witty, lively, and comprehensive take on the razor-thin original source material and will almost certainly dismiss this 2017 comic book as “woke” I am well aware that there are few. We all know by now that these people who use and abuse this term want an acceptable excuse rather than challenge it in the face of all kinds of prejudice.
Personally, I think that’s great. Here, not only does writer Max Bemis fill in some serious gaps in Dale’s past, but artist Eoin Mallon has a chance to explore some truly diverse subject matter. There’s humor in the action sequences, a collection of nice, heartfelt and tender moments, and a really trippy sequence to top it all off too.
This is a great but highly underrated series that many probably ignored before giving it a chance. It far exceeded my expectations. Centipede is a truly great piece of post-apocalyptic science fiction with an excellent, very human drama at its heart.
