Oshi no Ko, the story of the idol industry that took the world by storm when the anime began airing, will soon reach its final episode. “Oshi no Ko” announced on the X account that the manga will end in chapter 4. The series is currently on hiatus, but when it resumes on October 24th, the final four chapters will be released every week, culminating in the final chapter, Chapter 166, which will be released on November 14th.

Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War) wrote Oshinoko at a time when the entertainment industry was filled with cultural dissatisfaction. In collaboration with Mengo Yokoyari as an illustrator, “Oshinoko” debuted in “Weekly Young Jump” in April 2020. The manga is available in English on Manga Plus and has been licensed for print release by Yen Press. As of July 2024, the cumulative circulation of “Oshi no Ko” has exceeded 18 million copies.

This manga was directed by Douga Kobo and was given the green light to be made into an anime. The anime was a huge success. Season 1 premiered on HIDIVE and was reportedly the most successful premiere in the streaming service’s history. YOASOBI’s opening theme song “Idol” achieved 100 million views on Spotify and Youtube in two weeks after the anime was first released.

Oshi no Ko has also inspired a live-action film and a television series, with the former being distributed by Toei and Amazon Prime Video having streaming rights to the television series. The show will begin on November 28th and will consist of eight episodes.

“Oshi no Ko” is about Goro Amemiya, an obstetrician and gynecologist, who meets his favorite idol, Ai, in the most unexpected way. Ai came to his hospital to give birth to twin babies in secret. Unfortunately, on the night of the delivery, Goro is murdered and when he wakes up, he has been reincarnated as Ai’s son and is named Aqua. What’s more, Aqua’s twin sister Ruby and Sarina Tendoji, who was actually Gorou’s former patient, also have the same admiration and love for Ai. The three lived happily as a family for several years until Ai was killed by the same fan who killed Goro. Driven by anger and a thirst for revenge, Aqua dives deep into the entertainment industry to find out who the murderer is and protect her sister Ruby’s dreams.

Despite bidding farewell to the manga, fans of Oshi no Ko can still enjoy watching the anime, which has just begun airing its second season. Production for season 3 has already been decided.
