Crawling Spiderbot The soundtrack for the 1997 Ghost in the Shell game is making its way to the West for the first time. The soundtrack, titled “Ghost in the Shell: Megatech Body” (as an ode to the Fuchikoma, the mech operated in the game), was produced by Takkyu Ishino. You can pre-order it on iam8bit ahead of its release in 2025.

In this adaptation of the PS1 game, gamers from the late ’90s piloted a spider-like mecha (first seen in a 1991 comic) and blasted their enemies to smithereens with twin machine guns and guided missiles. The original author, Masamune Shirow, wrote the story and art design, and was in charge of illustrations.

But as shooters in the ’90s used to think, shooting non-stop for hours on end is far better with a bad techno soundtrack playing like an energy drink in the background. Masu. In addition to Ishino, the album also includes “warehouse-shaking bangers” by Mike van Dyk, The Advent, Joey Beltrame, Brother From Another Planet, and more.

The soundtrack album first appeared in Japan at the same time as the game in 1997 in limited editions: a one-disc version and a two-disc expanded edition. In an obvious homage to the original, the Western 2025 soundtrack will be available on CD (23 tracks), double LP (11 tracks), and 12-inch picture disc (“carefully curated” 6 tracks) will be available.

You can now pre-order three Ghost in the Shell Megatech body variants on iam8bit. The CD (packaged in a “stunning 3D lenticular case”) costs $43, the vinyl version costs $55, and the picture disc (presented on an illustrated double-sided disc that pays homage to the original release) costs $50 . The soundtrack is expected to be released in Q2 2025.
