The new season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is almost here. Comes with a trailer to prove it. It looks like the fifth and unfortunately final season will feature the same wild shenanigans and knowing humor that has made the show beloved by Trek fans.
The trailer is full of quirky jokes and jokes drawn from the vast world of Star Trek. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice the strange and sexy decontamination sauna, the Borg, and Harry Kim’s swarm from Star Trek: Enterprise. That’s correct. There appear to be at least seven Harry Kims floating around this trailer. My Delta Quadrant best friend is finally getting the respect he deserves.
For the uninitiated, Star Trek: Lower Decks is an animated show helmed by Mike McMahon, who created Solar Opposites and worked on the early seasons of Rick and Morty. It follows junior Starfleet officers in the aftermath of the events of 1990s shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s very entertaining, especially for long-time fans. That too was recently canceled.
I don’t know anything about viewer numbers, as Paramount+ is keeping them close to the (red) vest. But Star Trek: Lower Decks seems to be pretty popular, right? Also, since it’s a comic book, it’s not as expensive to make as something like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I can’t imagine Jack Quaid and Tony Newsome making amazing salaries, so why cancel? You know what I mean. #SaveLowerDecks.
