Games Done Quick, the organization behind charity gaming marathons featuring high-level speedrunners, has announced its latest fundraising initiative. The group announced in a tweet and press release that it will host an event called “Disaster Relief Don Quick” in support of Direct Relief, a humanitarian nonprofit helping those affected by Hurricane Helen.
“Hurricane Helen was a life-threatening Category 4 hurricane that killed more than 200 people, left power out to millions, and caused massive flooding and evacuations across the southeastern United States,” Games Done Quick wrote. “Disaster Relief Done Quick begins October 11th at 6:00 PM EDT and ends October 13th at 11:59 PM EDT.”
From October 11th to 13th, we will be holding a “Disaster Relief Complete Quick” event to support those affected by Hurricane Helen.
Donations during the event period will be @DirectRelief
Run submissions are being accepted until October 6th at 11:59pm ET: https://t.co/JzvuiOI0p9

If you’re interested in watching, you can do so on GDQ’s Twitch channel. Multiple speedrunners and streamers have already submitted runs in games such as Zelda: Four Swords, The Sims 4, and Tony’s Hawk’s Pro Skater series.
Past GDQ events have raised significant donations for charities, including Awesome Games Done Quick 2024, which raised $2.5 million for cancer research, and Summer Games Done Quick 2024, which raised $2.55 million for Médecins Sans Frontières. . Back in 2017, the organization raised $225,000 for Hurricane Harvey.
