Welcome to another edition of Fantastic Five, where we shout out the best comics of the week! This week, DC is going all-in with All-In Special, Justice Society, and Shazam! Let’s take a look at the book!

Best comics of the week: October 2, 2024

#5: Arashi #1

The best works of art occur when Ororo appears in costume. Verneck maintains the cloudy vibe that characterizes Ororo’s hair, as well as the same flowing cloak and regal elements of the Krakoa-era comics. Guimares and Sifuentes-Sijo illuminate the background with a golden glow, creating a beautiful image that is worth the cover price alone. Storm #1 is the kind of big, bold comic you’ve come to expect from Ororo Munroe, and if the final pages are any indication, the best is yet to come.

#4: Shazam! #16

Overall (get it?), Shazam! #16 has grown accustomed to all the developments that have taken place over the past year, using this as a springboard to take what has been built so far in a brand new direction that feels organic. It provides an excellent jumping off point for the series. Benefits of new initiatives. Campbell continues to impress, and McDade breathes new life into this modern take on the captain, promising an uncertain future as the focus shifts to darker, more pressing threats.

#3: Ultraman X Avengers #2

Ultraman X Avengers #2 maintains the momentum of the first issue thanks to strong character work and blockbuster-level artwork. There have been a lot of crossover works this year, and this one is definitely at the top of the list.

#2: Justice Society of America #12

The era of the Justice Society ends in good faith with the end of the New Golden Age. Geoff Johns and Todd Nauck deliver a beautiful issue that perfectly captures the nostalgic atmosphere. Get ready to want to do the trip all over again. Stargirl reaches a new milestone with her extended family cheering her on. The Titans are together and the Justice Leaguers are legends, but the JSA reminds us that they are a family legacy.

#1: DC All-in Special #1

I’m all in! Wow, what a crazy and incredible sight to see when the Justice League’s unstoppable force of hope meets Darkseid’s immovable object of destruction. Snyder, Williamson, Sampere, and Craig have demonstrated that actions speak louder than words, and I believe this initiative will continue to move the DC Universe forward. I look forward to the next chapter of this story!
