The My Adventures with Superman miniseries is rushing toward its conclusion, but it seems hell-bent on swaying readers before it gets there, especially when it comes to Amazo. Adventures with Superman #5 finds the android on the brink of death after Slade Wilson seemingly fatally wounds him…but in the throes of death, Amazo is in his path It’s starting to absorb everything! Superman must fight to keep Amazo from falling into Death’s embrace, while Lois, Jimmy, and the Kents battle the Bloodsport army.
The creative team of Josie Campbell and Pablo M. Culler doesn’t skimp on emotion in this issue. From the first page, Superman is depicted holding Amazo’s body and screaming to the heavens. Furthermore, we will delve deeper into the origins of the Amazon. This foreshadows the events of Adventures with Superman Season 2 and provides a chilling contrast to Superman’s origins. When Clark Kent fell from the sky, he unwittingly brought hope. The Amazon’s arrival brought destruction and terror.
But Campbell uses that dynamic to emphasize Superman’s compassion for others. Despite Amazo’s meltdown, Clark is willing to stand by him and offer him a path back to the light. Bloodsport, by contrast, is willing to burn down the entire Metropolis if it means defeating the “alien threat.” Superman has one thing that Bloodsport doesn’t have. It’s his friends and family. Campbell doesn’t forget how important Lois and Jimmy are to The Adventures of Superman, and they, along with the Kent family, lend a lightness to the story.

In My Adventures with Superman #5, the color artwork is bigger than ever, especially since robots going nuclear are the main problem. Bolts of pale energy shoot out of Amazo’s body, creating a striking effect against the midnight black sky thanks to Nick Filardi’s color art. But the real charm is how the colors give Amazo expressions that range from pain to regret to ultimately accepting his fate. This is why My Adventures with Superman #5 is a good read. Because it puts humanity at the forefront of the story, I’m even more intrigued by what the final issue will be.
