Mad Cave Studios’ young adult label Maverick has announced a new graphic novel, Student Government, written by Dave Justus and Lilah Sturges with art by Joe Aisma. Scheduled for publication on March 11, 2025, the book follows four students at Halcyon Burke College, America’s second oldest university, as they try to save their school from demolition.

At America’s second-oldest university, four earnest, intelligent, and desperate teenagers from the Interim Student Government take advantage of a loophole in the school’s charter to save the school from demolition. confronting pressure from the Board of Directors and increasing hostility from the Board of Directors. A cheerful and heartwarming story.

The book represents the latest collaboration between Justus and Sturgess, who previously collaborated on the 2015 fantasy series Public Relations. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Justus (whose credits include the graphic novelization of The Wolf Among Us, Everafter, and the interactive fiction app Lifeline) said in an interview with ComicBook.com that Sturges and Eisma worked together on Free Comic Book Day. He said they have been friends since they met at an event. Student government was founded in Dallas in 2009, and student government was conceived shortly thereafter.

The title was intended to be for mature readers until Mad Cave editor-in-chief Mike Mertz and others at the company suggested it would make a better YA book. In the end, the creative team found that “neither comedy nor politics had to be sacrificed,” and that the book “took a narrative thread of courage, compassion, optimism, and the many things that the word ‘family’ means.” I agreed that it was earned. ”

Sturges further described the book as “a book for everyone who likes comedy, bunnies, and justice served,” and Eisma described Mad Cave as “our biggest cheerleader and all… He guided me in the right direction.” I’m very happy with the final result. I think our readers are really looking forward to a story that is engaging, funny, and heartwarming in the best sense of the word. ”

The Student Government graphic novel is available for pre-order in bookstores and will be available on March 11th for $14.99 for 180 pages. In the meantime, visit ComicBook.com for more information, a full interview with the creative team, and an inside preview. Mad Cave’s own page for this book can also be found here.
