DC All In Special #1 Review

I highly recommend reading Absolute Power #4 before reading DC All In Special. This book sets the groundwork for why DC heroes implement these ideas. Our own David Brook sat down with Scott Snyder and Wes Craig and gave us some great insights to add to their work. After reading that interview and the All In Special, I knew the creatives were really “All In.” Fans have experienced several DC Comics initiatives, but how is this different from the New 52, Rebirth, and Dawn of DC?

All In Special is very interactive. As you may know, this article will be split in half and flipped over into two parts, aptly titled “Alpha” and “Omega.” The first half is “Alpha” by Joshua Williamson, Scott Snyder, Daniel Sampere, and Alejandro Sanchez. These four combine well. You can feel the hope radiating from this refocused group of heroes. Reintroducing the Justice League as Justice League Unlimited is perfect! I felt like I was hearing the theme song from the JLU animated series and it gave me chills. I eagerly looked at each panel to see which heroes were featured. This was a great character in the DCU.

The “Omega” on the back is by Snyder and Williamson, with art by Wes Craig and Mike Spicer providing the colors. Craig’s approach is certainly 180 degrees different from Sampere’s. This part of the book, with visuals straight out of hell, showcases Darkseid’s horrifying journey to capture the new emotion of lust for power. I appreciate the places that Darkseid has traveled and left his mark on. From a writing standpoint, I appreciate the twist in Final Crisis where Darkseid learns how to use the tools that stopped him in the past.

There are a lot of great moments in this issue, and fans of Booster Gold and Darkseid will see the comic at the top of their collection. The opening scene between Superman and Booster reminded me of their quick encounter in The Death of Superman, which gave us the name Doomsday, but this one is much more hopeful. Barry Allen saying “I’ve seen this before” brought me back to Infinite Frontier #6. I think there are some hints there. This all-in special provides a perfect understanding of what happens when an unstoppable force of hope meets an immovable object of destruction. I’m a big believer when the creators declare they’re going “all in,” but if this is a preview of what’s to come, I’m super excited.

I’m all in! Wow, what a crazy and incredible sight to see when the Justice League’s unstoppable force of hope meets Darkseid’s immovable object of destruction. Snyder, Williamson, Sampere, and Craig have demonstrated that actions speak louder than words, and I believe this initiative will continue to move the DC Universe forward. I look forward to the next chapter of this story!

The story of the Justice League and Darkseid coming together at its epic center, expanded by Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillein, is amazing!

The play with Darkseid and Booster Gold’s ring is great and I can’t wait to see if it’s part of the Absolute Universe or something else.

It’s a great callback to see all these heroes come together and the league fully expand

Darkseid’s brutal journey was so intense that I had to watch it twice because it was about one man against everything.

Sampere and Craig’s art styles are completely different and express hope against hatred.
