As Google rolls out its Gemini side panel for Gmail and other Workspace apps, it reveals that its generative AI chatbot will also be able to provide contextual smart replies to email services in the future. I did. Now, the company has officially released the feature. Smart Reply has been in Gmail since 2017 and provides a quick, albeit impersonal, way to reply to messages when you’re in a hurry or on the go. However, the responses these machines generate are quite limited and are often just one sentence to let the recipient know that they understand what they are saying or agree with their suggestion. .
The new smart replies generated by Gemini take into account the entire content of the email thread. If you want it to be as close as possible to what you wrote, you may need to edit it a bit, but it will be more detailed and more personal. With this feature, when you reply from the Gmail app, you’ll see several reply options at the bottom of the screen. Hover over each for a detailed preview and choose the one you think will give you the best response.
You can access this feature if you have the Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-on, or if you have a Google One AI Premium subscription. According to Google, Gemini’s smart replies can take up to 15 days to appear in the app. Make sure that (Smart features and customization) is checked on the (Settings) page of the Gmail app.
