Marvel’s Red Band Gimmick hasn’t proven it’s necessary yet. While comics are billed as a place where they can push up graphic violence envelopes, most of the time they feel out of the way to produce gore for stories that never need it. I have seen Logan fight to overcome his winter soldier programming and then work with the opposition to fight the tyrannical rule of the Eurasian Union. The ultimate universe is a concept that is always set on a clock. Whether it’s the “real-time” element of each title that takes place in the actual month it releases, or the looming threat of the manufacturer, this will reach its own crescendo in the ultimate endgame of the future.
