This October, the X-Men will be cast into a dark new future with Age of Revelation, an event that will jump through the Marvel universe ten years away. In this world, Doug Ramsey, the heir to the Apocalypse, rules the mutant utopia while the rest of the earth is wrapped around it from the devastating X-virus. Expect a bold reshape of Marvel’s mutant line as shocking twists, unlikely alliances, and brand new series spins from this dystopian future. SAGA begins with Jed Mackay and Ryan Stegman’s X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1, and branches out into 16 interconnected Issue 3…

At New York Comic Con, IDW is offering fans an Ashkamp preview of teenage mutant Ninja Turtles #13. I was fortunate to see the ink and lettering early. It’s only six pages long, but it was enough to get me excited about what’s coming to this new era for the turtle. First impression (no spoilers) Freddie E. Williams II, who debuted as an interior artist in the main TMNT series, is not disappointed. His crowd scenes are packed with details, and the nuances of each turtle’s appearance are truly pop. Raphael’s mask has an attractive, pointy edge that adds a…

Marvel’s Red Band Gimmick hasn’t proven it’s necessary yet. While comics are billed as a place where they can push up graphic violence envelopes, most of the time they feel out of the way to produce gore for stories that never need it. Daredevil: Unleash Hell certainly feels like a book that could easily produce its content without a label with very minor changes. Furthermore, Gore is presented as if the creator hesitates to create it – as if it was a disappointing addition, not a feature of the story. Amazing Unleash Hell is a book divided between Intents. There…
Imperial is set in the stages of a new era of Marvel’s space adventures, and with Imperial War: Nova Centurion #1, it’s time for Richard Rider to get his time. From the start of Nova Centurion #1, it’s not easy for riders. Reconnecting to Nova Worldmind has been shown to be extremely painful, not only physically but also mentally. First, he faces a horrifying vision of cancer…
The ultimate Wolverine has been a cruel vehicle so far. I have seen Logan fight to overcome his winter soldier programming and then work with the opposition to fight the tyrannical rule of the Eurasian Union. You reach the point where you think, “This guy can’t take a break.” Ultimate Wolverine #9 actually takes a bit of breath from the heavy story, giving readers an independent issue of attacking the master mold factory where the opposition is creating mutant hunting sentinels. This is still a Wolverine book. This means that Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio insert through a scary moment.…
