Taylor Swift fans and the US government aren’t the only ones unhappy with Ticketmaster: The UK government will be investigating the company’s dynamic pricing model after millions of Oasis fans fought to get tickets to the band’s reunion tour last weekend. After fans waited in line for hours and then checked out, some found the price of a standing ticket suddenly increased by two and a half times — in one case from £135 to £337.50 ($177 to $444). Ticketmaster often gives customers only a few seconds to decide whether to complete a purchase after adding a ticket to their cart,…
FrontierCartoonist: Guillaume SanguérinTranslated by Dan ChristensenLocalization/Editor: Mike KennedyProduced/Lettered by: Chris NorthropPublisher: Magnetic Press / $24.99August 2024 Its influences span the galaxy, but only four characters are at the heart of Frontier. A scientist who sold control to ensure his dream spaceship is built. An astronaut who has never set foot on a planet. Sparrow, an ex-mercenary who lost a limb on his last job. And a monkey. He is a monkey. A series of atmospheric collisions bring them together, let’s call it a coincidence, and the path becomes clear. Guillaume Sangeline presents the reader with a question and an answer:…
The Starliner is scheduled to detach from the International Space Station in the coming days and return to Earth unmanned, but it appears there are some new mysteries plaguing the team before it departs. On Saturday, astronaut Butch Wilmore notified NASA Mission Control that he was hearing an unexplained “weird noise” coming from the spacecraft’s speakers. The sound can be heard in an audio clip of the conversation shared by meteorologist Rob Dale on the NASASpaceflight forum (spotted by Ars Technica). The sound begins around the 45-second mark and is a steady, humming rhythm. “I don’t know what it’s making,”…
In today’s rapidly changing comic industry, two universal truths remain. The first is that Dog Man is the defining comic of our time. The second is that more people than ever are reading manga and webtoons (also known as vertical scrolling comics). That’s why we at The Comics Beat have decided to embark on a new adventure: Beat’s Bizarre Adventures. Every week, three writers will recommend their favorite books and series from Japan, Korea, and other countries. This week’s special Vampire Edition features a Vampire Girlfriend, a Vampire Student, and of course, Dracula. Vampires Writer/Artist: AkiliTranslated by Molly RabbitProofreading: Patrick…
By Sunday night, the platform had become all but unavailable in the country after the country’s Supreme Court ordered internet service providers to block access to X. Since then, the only way to access X has been via a VPN (for those willing to pay huge fines) or Starlink, a satellite internet service run by fellow X owner Elon Musk. The president of Brazilian telecommunications company Anatel said Starlink refused to comply with the court order until authorities released the frozen assets, The New York Times reported. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has taken an aggressive stance against X,…
Image credit: Skybound/Image Comics The time has come for Darak and Sorilla to part ways, but it was only meant to be a temporary separation. Meanwhile, a secret conspiracy involving the leaders of both societies is growing uneasy, and something else lurks in the darkness. I had my moments of dissatisfaction with Robert Kirkman’s Void Rivals, but he’s been pretty strong lately and he’s done a much better job of bringing the story into the Transformers (sorry, Energon) universe in a more cohesive way. There are digressions in this issue that feel as though they come from an entirely different…
Classic Comics Encyclopedia: A thrilling short story from the master of horror, “Alien – Incubation”
The Alien series has recently received a new impetus in the public consciousness with the release of the new film, “Alien: Romulus.” I haven’t seen the film yet, but I’ve seen both positive and negative reactions to it. Last week (August 28, 2024), the first issue of “Aliens vs. Avengers” by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic was released, which I really liked and look forward to continuing the series. There’s also a prequel TV series in development by “Legion”‘s Noah Hawley coming soon. All of this made me want to look back at the older parts of the comic book…
AnimEigo’s Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, which aims to release a Blu-ray disc version of the anime film “Kamui’s Dagger,” called “Kamui’s Dagger Treasure Vault Edition,” reached its goal on the campaign’s first day. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised $74,125 from 812 backers. The campaign’s original goal was $50,000. The campaign launched on Saturday and will end on September 24th. Confirmed set contents for the project include an HD transfer of the original film with English subtitles, SDH subtitles and captions, color and line art gallery, an all-new full-length commentary track by director Rintaro and anime historian Masahiro…
Capcom has updated the mobile ports of several Resident Evil games to require an internet connection when opening the apps: As Eurogamer points out, the patch notes for the latest Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil Village updates state, “Due to changes to the launch process, this app now requires an internet connection when launching.”It’s unclear why Capcom added this requirement, but it sucks. Anyone on a plane without Wi-Fi or wanting to sneak in a game while camping in a remote area will no longer be able to play these games on their phone or tablet.…
Comixology Originals announced a new graphic novel this week from writer Michael Conrad, debut comics artist Nathan Auten, letterer Kyle Ahrens and editor Zane Barrow, which will be released in print by Dark Horse Books next spring. Neptune has been described as a “tale of revenge and redemption” that Conrad says borders on horror. “It’s not easy to continue books like Tremor Dose and Double Walker, and I remain very proud of those two stories,” says Conrad. “With Neptune I wanted to rip something out of the headlines and put it into a graphic novel, and the result feels less…
