There’s no doubt that a new Kindle is coming soon. The newest model, Kindle Scribe, was introduced nearly two years ago. And with other e-reader companies like Kobo and Boox now offering color models, Amazon is no doubt hoping to catch up. But at its core, an e-reader is a way to read the words on a page. All current Kindle models have a 300 dpi screen, which is standard and makes text look nice and crisp. Additionally, unlike smartphones and tablets, e-reader updates don’t come with tons of new features that can make older models feel outdated. That means the…
It was announced yesterday that Nazie Marsham will join Skybound Entertainment as a senior editor, overseeing both new development of original comics and licensing partnerships such as Lego Books. Image credit: Dark Horse Comics Since I’ve been reviewing comics a little out of order so far, I thought it was time to return to Dark Horse’s original Terminator series, which started the expanded universe of Terminator stories beyond the movies. What’s interesting is that these comics were written and published before and during the production of Terminator 2. As such, it provides an interesting glimpse into what the creators were imagining beyond the first Terminator, before the sequel expands on the possibilities in a big way. For example, the darker, more violent, horror-like tone of the first film is…
The Terminator movie series is perhaps the best example of how success can both shape and destroy a series. More movies can be made, but studios, audiences, and other outside forces often want to see more of certain elements. In the case of the Terminator movies, every time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day they’ve tried to recreate Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This changes in Terminator #1 by Declan Shalvey and Luke Sparrow.First, the book is set after the events of the first Terminator movie and doesn’t follow any of the characters from that movie, which is a relief. We can…
AIPT can exclusively reveal Abrams Comic Arts will be bringing Mads creator Patrick McDonnell and Simpsons creator Matt Groening to New York Comic Con for an in-depth panel discussion. Held on Friday, October 18th at 12:45pm in Room 1C03, the two creators will discuss their careers in the panel ‘Patrick McDonnell and Matt Groening in Conversation’.”When Patrick and Matt have a conversation together, it’s like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup panel,” said Charles Cockman, editor-in-chief of Abrams Comic Arts and editor of two books. Ta. “As fans of Mutz and Futurama, we are honored to celebrate their 30th and 25th…
The moon is stuck in the midnight sky like a broken clock, and the sun is a distant memory. In this quiet seaside town, no one remembers how long this unnatural darkness lasted. That is, no one but 12-year-old Madeline Tock, a curious girl who lives in a cemetery and cares for the dead. In gratitude, the deceased whisper to her their concerns, like an overprotective but loving father. Be careful of this endless night and the girl who causes it.Because there are other people who can hear those whispers. . . A person whose gown is a map of…
Since the character’s introduction in 1977, Judge Dredd has had some truly crazy incidents and adventures (mostly through the pages of 2000 AD). Even on the “trainer” side, that long list includes The Man with the Permanent Middle Finger, “The Simping Detective,” and a billion other entries we’ve neglected to mention. I am. But in the midst of all the madness, we’d like to introduce you to a more recent and even more bizarre candidate: chimpanzees and voter fraud.Yes, Dr. Dredd has dealt with primates before, but in the upcoming AD 2000 Annual 2025, everything is truly dog-monkey. Written by…
Dynamite Entertainment’s Space Ghost #6 – on sale this week – features a side development from issue #5. Jace is dealing with the emotional trauma of killing Zorak. And no matter how justified Jace was in protecting others and pulling the trigger to save the universe, killing someone must be a truly traumatic experience, especially for a child. Jonathan Lau continues to remind us how young Jace and Jean are, portraying them as skinny with big heads. How does a child so young deal with the knowledge that he has taken the life of another?Pepose delves deep into Jace’s emotional…
Kindles that allow you to take handwritten notes are on sale for Amazon Prime Day. The 16GB model of Kindle Scribe is currently $85 off, reducing the price to $255 instead of the usual $340. This isn’t an all-time low, the e-reader just recently hit $240 on Prime Day in July, but this is the lowest price we’ve tracked since then. And while there’s a good chance we’ll see a new Kindle or two, nothing is confirmed yet.Photo by: Cherlynn Low/EngadgetThat’s about $15 more than the Prime Day sale price in July, but the lowest price since then. $255 on…
