Dead Sky Publishing has built a formidable book series with a reputation for not being afraid to test readers’ limits.
From the perverted body horror Dead Inside (with one of the most shocking opening sentences in recent memory) to the steampunk dinosaur comic Red Range, the publisher is keen to differentiate itself.
Dead Sky is currently at New York Comic Con at booth #2140, with a large selection of books on display. The publisher’s products clearly depict how important the publisher’s presence has become in the field of comics and prose, especially genre fiction.
The publisher focuses on developing western splatter libraries, giving them their own identity. These books, including A Savage Breed, Hell’s Cargo, and Cruel Angels Past Sundown, to name a few, capture all the violence associated with this subgenre and have established themselves within the splatter community. Many feature covers by popular cover artist Luke Spooner, giving the books a very risqué look.
The Red Range manga has currently had two issues published, but the Diamond debacle has forced the publisher to instead opt for a full graphic novel release, scheduled for late next year.
The book is written by Keith Lansdale and illustrated by Argentine artist Joc. The story of a man and his son is set in a strange land where dinosaurs and steamships roam. One day, the man’s son is kidnapped. With a map and a mysterious destination, the pair, and those they meet along the way, set out on a dangerous adventure in a very hostile place.
Red Range does a good job of setting up the world and its characters so you can enjoy all the dinosaur action later on. In a way, this is very effective in building anticipation for the graphic novel. Not giving up on the series, not to mention supporting the series and its creators, is a commendable act of Dead Sky’s resilience in the face of a crisis that rocked the diamond industry.
If you haven’t already, follow Dead Sky on social and stay tuned for more book announcements. If you’re at New York Comic Con, stop by booth #2140 and check out our products. It will be a very comfortable place, especially for horror fans.
