In honor of National Coming Out Day, Ignition Press has announced “The Other/Half,” a new romantic comedy series from writer Jim McCann and artist Joe Eisma. You can find all the details on The Beat.
The Other/Half begins with issue #1 in Spring 2026. This book is a queer romance of opposites, with a noir twist, with the glamor of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Here is the full synopsis:
Henry and Ethan are complete opposites. Henry is a rough-and-tumble private investigator and Ethan is a socialite financially cut off from his Upper East Side family, but it’s true as they say opposites attract. A precious diamond belonging to Ethan goes missing, sparking criticism. To clear her husband’s name, Henry must enter the glittering world of New York’s elite. Meanwhile, Ethan must roll up his sleeves and take on the role of PI to search for clues. Each must learn how their other half lives if they want to clear Ethan’s name and uncover the truth.
Issue 1 features the main cover art by Eisma (no title decoration), as shown below. Additional variant covers will also be released.
“I’ve always loved screwball mysteries like the Thin Man series, so it’s really great to be able to bring that to today’s audience,” McCann said. “‘The Other/Half’ is truly a love letter to that era, with expressions that reflect contemporary culture. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how perfect Joe’s art is!”
Eisma added, “‘The Other/Half’ is one of the most fun comics I’ve drawn in a long time. Jim has created a story that’s funny, mysterious, and sweet all at the same time. The characters we’ve developed will really captivate readers.”
“Our editors, Maggie Howell and Jamie S. Rich, encouraged us to really try hard creatively, and that brought out the best in us with this book,” he continued. “This comic is perfect for fans of comedic mysteries!”
“‘The Other/Half’ is a high-stakes romp with nine points of chemistry and charisma,” said Maggie Howell, senior editor at Ignition Press. “Jim and Joe are on top of their game, finding every opportunity to explore the essential physical comedy of this book and the honest and unexpected connection between the story’s two hilarious and courageous protagonists. We’re thrilled to have a book that is both satisfying as a mystery and as a romance, and readers will feel the love that went into this book.”
The Other/Half #1 will be available digitally and at local comic shops in Spring 2026.
