Every week there’s a real horny that hits the stands of new comics. Readers often know exactly what they are most interested in (they have their pull lists sitting in the reliable hands of comic shops), but they are sometimes told about opposing that old trim and judging the book by its cover.
Some truly amazing cover art hits every week. These were the ones that caught Colin’s eye for the week of July 16th, 2025.
Batman: Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #8
Variants by Becky Cloonan
We love the big wet swamp boa here at the cover review, and few people are finer than the Solomon Grundy of Slaughter Swamps, where mugshot is an absolute mess. Before someone films this moment, provide this guy with a towel.
DC’s Kal-El-Fornia Love #1
Variant by Marcio Takara
Here, Kara exudes genuine “Summer 1993” energy. Even a perfect outfit (not perfect for sunbathing, I imagine – considering their power source, I can’t imagine Cryptonians worrying about skin cancer), she is ready for summer leisure with high pony and classic specs.
Gargoyle: Demona #2
Variant by Sebastián Piriz
Every member of Gargoyles has incredibly unique designs, but I have always loved Demona the most. Piriz drops fun colours, sharpens her claws, making her even more wild.
Heavy Metal #2
Variants by Jim Mahodo
I also love good skeletons when judging covers. We love Jim Mahodo’s skeletons in double. Subtle color contrast, sporadic shapes, exciting energy.
Hero Cave #1
Cover by Sid Madia
Another skelry, this does what should be adequate hygiene maintenance: Bone brushing. It’s a simple visual gag, but it works really well with this loose and speedy style.
Mark Spears Monster #6
Variant by Mark Spears
Spears is the master and he creates a stunning Vampirella. It returns to the classic cover of that series, namely the swimsuit model pose, Disney Princess Animal Friend. Spears needs to be constantly working in as many variations as he produces. Not to mention the amount of cover he has to offer.
Marvel & Disney: What should I do…? Goofy has become Spider-Man #1
Variant by Skottie Young
Goofy was already a superhero, but as Spider-Man, he falls into a fresh goofy tastic bumble. He falls into his web trap and almost hears the screams of “wa-ha-hooey.”
Werewolf Night: Blood Moonrise #1
Variants by Josemaria Casanovas
Casanovas leaned against the horror of the werewolf’s terrifying body in an unnaturally stretched maw. I love Elsa going to town with his hands. It’s a scary and fun image – not so serious, just a superhero with a big slurred look.
