Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and the creative force behind Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, is making his comic debut with Dark Horse Comics and American Caper, the new No. 12 crime saga for his new company, Abside Ventures. The first issue hit the comic shop on November 12th, 2025, and a trailer is now available to offer the first look of the series.

Houser is joined by longtime collaborator Lazlow, a producer and contributor writer and a veteran GTA. The series features art by Eisner Award winner David Raffham (The Lost Bullet), finishings by Chris Anderson, colours by Lee Lafridge, and letters by Nate Piecos. American Caper is edited by Shelly Bond (formerly Vertigo) and Daniel Chabon, editor-in-chief of Dark Horse.

Located in a chaotic town in Verona, Wyoming, American Capers follows two neighbors: a Mormon hitman and a gambling lawyer. Surrounding them is a strange cast. In the past he has appeared in, two fugitive enthusiasts and billionaires become aspiring cowboys and is the Queen of Mexican beauty, with revenge-led madman. It’s part noir, completely indifferent.

“American Capers are based on my lifelong appeal to hypocrites, sociopaths, political idiots, dysfunctional families and violence,” Hauser said. “It’s dark, vulgar, morally ambiguous, and hopefully entertaining. It’s a comic about the chaotic world we live in now.”

The series promises biting commentary on modern America, from the corrupt elites of Wyoming’s wilderness to the cultural battlefields of Florida and Brooklyn. The first issue includes a main cover by Tyler’s boss and variations of Simon Bisley, Martin Simmons, Joe Quinones and Marguerite Sorvadge. Bisley also provided original concept art for the series.

To celebrate the launch, American Capers will shine the spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con. This includes signatures with the Sunday Panel and the Hauser team. Fans can also access the Dark Horse booth (#2615) for Ashkan prizes, T-shirts and exclusive items.

American Caper #1 is now available for pre-order at the comic shop for $4.99. It will also be featured at www.absurdventures.com/americancaper.
