Power Fantasy #3 gave a detailed breakdown of the timeline of the series’ events. One of these events in the timeline was the arrival of a traffic light. The text is called “Gestalt of Intellectuality from the dying world.” We have now arrived at the point of a story where the signal arrives on Earth and attempts to take over the hearts of a billion people. The timeline also notes that in question #10 the pyramid is in hell. It’s the context of where you’ll find yourself when you fall into problems this week.
Power Fantasy #10 began in China in 1978, and this signal admires the beauty of the Earth. He/she tells the magician that the signal is deadly and asks if he can help. Initially, Magus believes he can help, but then he admits that he can’t. Magus praised the signal, “it just admits Gestalt Intelligence as a good idea and f****** the execution.” Magus also recognizes that the signal will attempt to take over their bodies to survive. Magus acknowledges that signal threats may need to be neutralized if necessary. The magician appears to accept this responsibility, but Magus also seems to have resistance.
From there, the scene transitioned to the pyramid in 1999. Eliza discovers that Jackie Magus is her longtime ex-husband following the shocking release at the end of Power Fantasy #9. Eliza asks for an explanation, but before he can give it to her, the pair engages in some…intimate acts. The scattered scenes of Eliza’s “reunion” with her ex-husband are scenes set in Manchester during a summer love event where the Queen tried to destroy all reality (see Power Fantasy #7 and #8 for more information). These flashbacks detail how Eliza’s ex-husband became a real Jackie Magus replacement.

This issue details the tomb sacrifices by magicians and pyramids, created to prevent the Queen’s efforts to destroy all of my reality, and ultimately buy enough time for Eliza to defeat the Queen. The solution to this problem would set up a future conflict between Etienne, Heavy, Valentina, Eliza and the Pyramid. Throughout the series, superpowers have maintained an uneasy balance to prevent an all-out war between atoms and other superpowers. What happens when that balance is destroyed, and when superpowers go to war with each other, can Earth survive?
Power Fantasy continues to be an ambitious and thought-inspired book that recontexts superhero myths by taking a revolutionary approach to familiar themes and ethical issues surrounding divinely powerful beings. Every panel at Casper Wijngaard is incredibly breathtaking and throughout the book so far, Wijngaard’s art is very consistent with quality. While this book requires a thorough reading of the depth and scope of what the work is trying to achieve, it is always excellent at telling truly engaging, interesting and complex stories that keep readers investing heavily in the next article.
