Comic Book Review: Protectors #6 (1993)

The Protectors are mourning the loss of their teammate, as Nightmask was brutally killed by the infamous die-cut bullet hole featured in issue #5, but some are taking this tragedy harder than others. Will they be able to get enough respite from Mr. Monday and his Steel Army to peacefully bury their fallen comrades?

This development in the story seems to bring out the best in writer RA Jones and artist Tom Derenick. Both authors have delivered some really strong work this time around, following up on their amazingly good last issue.

There are still some strange quirks in the characterization. For example, some of the Protectors act in strangely insensitive ways, as do those in their orbit. In addition to those moments, the writing still has odd quirks here and there.

But overall this was a well-handled story that dealt with loss in a way that was perhaps becoming a trend after The Death of Superman gained mainstream attention a few months earlier in 1993. It was a manga.
