Microsoft has announced the new Xbox Wireless Headset. This headset comes with a free Dolby Atmos license. Previous versions of the headset required owners to purchase a license separately. A $15 purchase typically covers up to 10 Windows or Xbox devices. Another notable upgrade is battery life, which Microsoft says has increased playback time to 20 hours.

Regarding the Dolby Atmos license, Microsoft once posted that there is a period of exclusivity with Dolby for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. This turned out to be false as the company later revealed that the post had been published in error. However, this headset comes with a license, which could save users money and help more people try this technology. Our list of best gaming headsets also includes headsets that come with a Dolby Atmos license, such as Audeze Maxwell.
Audio isn’t the only improvement with the new Xbox Wireless Headset models. The microphone is now equipped with audio isolation and enhanced auto-mute to prevent audio output from being disrupted by external noise. Clear communication is still important when communicating with your team to win.
In addition to supporting Dolby Atmos, this new headset also works with Windows Sonic and DTS Headphone:X. Windows Sonic is a spatial sound solution included with Windows computers. DTS Headphone:X is also a 3D sound solution for Windows, but you have to download it for free from the Microsoft Store. All three are designed to enhance game audio and increase player immersion. If you don’t like the sound, you can adjust it using the Xbox Accessories app.
To reduce lag, the Xbox Wireless Headset is equipped with a Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 chipset. It also supports Bluetooth 5.3.
You can currently purchase the Xbox Wireless Headset for $110. Microsoft hasn’t said which regions will have it in stock, but it’s available in some regions both online and in retail stores.
