Welcome to another creepy edition of X-Men on Monday at X-Fans, AIPT!

Following last week’s interview with writer and Age of Liberation Architect Jed Mackay, coverage of our event continues in the spotlight on Laura Kinney: Sabretooth. The Tie-In series, on sale October 8th, 2025, mutes Laura Kinney: Wolverine. The hero is now a title like (and dressed) Sabreet-tooth, fighting alongside the revelation! What is going on? ! ?

Luckily, Laura Kinney: Sabretooth author Erica Schultz returned to X-Men on Monday to shed light on the upcoming series. Let’s see what she has to say.

aipt: X-Men Monday, back to Erica! So, after the 10th issue of Laura Kinney: You are celebrating the x years into a dark future era of the apocalypse for Laura Kinney: sabretooth. As a writer, what creative opportunities do events like this offer in terms of exploring Laura as a character?

Erica Schultz: It’s always fun to enter the future, as the possibilities are endless. What happened then and now to bring about such a dramatic change to the character? How did their perspectives change with the years of experience in the intervening to create new perspectives? Creatively, it’s wide open. Editorials have a task to prevent you from stepping on each other’s toes, but it can raise some interesting questions. Regarding design, how did the environment change? What new uniforms do the characters wear? Collaboration is what makes comics such a great medium, and it’s always exciting to see what your art partners come up with.

aipt: Before we dig deeper, can we share the elevator pitch for Laura Kinney: Sabretooth?

Erika: I’m always awful with Loglines, but I’ll try it: the world turns X Year into the future, and Laura Kinney is no longer Wolverine. Taking the mantle of Sabretooth, her eyes were opened by events of the War of Revelation, and her alliance changed dramatically.

What do you think?

Provided by Marvel Comics

aipt: That’s good for me! So obviously, readers need to buy and read the series, and know why Laura abandoned the “Wolverine” name and accepted “sabretooth.” But is there anything I can tease about this decision in advance? Because X-Fans like Chandler want to know why Laura takes the name of someone who slaughtered her brother in “Sabretooth War.”

Erika: Yeah, I can see how the fans get confused, but when I read it, it makes sense. The name “Sabretooth” has always been associated with merciless violence due to the victor’s beliefs. He’s a terrible person. But we show that, just as Logan and Laura gave honor to Wolverine’s codename, Laura gives honor to Sabretooth’s name through others.

I know it’s inexplicable, but I just know that Laura’s name choice is a better reason than you think.

aipt:x-fan key wants to know if writing your time has changed your perspective on her at all. Does Key also ask what your thought process is to explore her own personal dark future in the age of revelation?

Erika: I don’t think my perspective on Laura has changed. I found her unique and interesting, up to her introduction in X-Men: Evolution. The fact that she didn’t even have a childhood, unlike Logan, made her different from the first Wolverine. She has never become a “Wolverine Woman” to me. She has grown from the X-23 to Wolverine and has grown as a woman over the years. We all change and grow based on our experiences. Although we shape us in a good way, others shape us in a bad way, it’s all part of our own personal journey. I’m nearly 50 years old and not who I am today five years ago. The same goes for these characters.

Pairing her with Electra, I think Bucky helped Laura show that she wasn’t alone in her journey, but that others survived a similar fate. You don’t come out cleanly on the other side, but I hope you come out smarter and hopefully make better/different decisions in the future.

When it came to exploring Laura in the Apocalypse storyline era, there was a series of creatives and a big zoom call. Everyone pitched their ideas and we all tried to make sure we could tell a compelling story while balancing our individual stories with the comprehensive throughline of crossovers. That sounded very corporate. How about this: We all want to tell the story of the characters we are in charge of, but we don’t want to contradict someone else’s toes or anything else going on in the series.

AIPT: No, everything makes sense for events of this size. Well, X-Fan Mario B knows that Laura will face her brothers, Gabby and Akihiro in the series, but what about the other characters that appeared in Laura Kinney: Wolverine Run? Specifically, this is Hellion, who is also thinking about Mario B and his fellow X-Fans Eric and Matt.

Erika: Well, Mario B, Eric and Matt would be happy to know that Hellion is in Laura Kinney: Sabretooth.

We will also meet two new characters, Zane and Alex. I don’t tell you who they are, but they are essential to the story. There are a few characters I support that I have never written before. I’m happy to have the opportunity to capture their voices. I tried to get some more originals from the X-23: Deadly Regenesis and Laura Kinney: Wolverine, but there’s plenty you can fit in one book.

AIPT: Whole Laura Kinney: Wolverine, there were a lot of team up and personal moments. X-Fan Emily B wants to know what your favorite Laura relationship (family, platonic, or romantic) writes.

Erika: Honestly, they all have a place so I don’t have any favorites. Writing Laura and Electra together was fun. Because there are women who are more experienced than Laura attempting to give both life advice and assassin advice. Also, I was writing Daredevil at the time, so I was putting Electra in the story and ruining myself.

Bucky had a sister, Rebecca, and I wanted him to have that relationship again. Laura is his wild becky and it obviously took them when they worked together again in the new Avengers. Maybe one day you’ll see it on the big screen.

As for Laura’s romantic relationship, I can’t let anything go there. I know that her other self, Talon, had a heartbreaking relationship with her sync, but this Laura is still focused on finding herself before she finds anyone else.

AIPT: In relation to the characters in which Laura is involved in the series, X-Fan David is curious to see how influential he is in the current event of Laura Kinney: Wolverine (especially #6-10).

Erika: Focusing on the relationship between Laura, Logan and Gabby in #6-7, Laura and Gabby in #8-10 definitely tee up Laura Kinney: Sabretooth. I’m not saying you can’t read sabretooth before the Wolverine series, but I would recommend you do so. One thing we wanted to make sure was that there was a seamless transition between the two series, but we were able to read independently.

AIPT: Fashion Questions from X-Fan Emily B. Can you decide on Laura’s fashion or is it an artist’s choice? Emily B loves her punk/goth style in your series!

Erica: Laura Kinney’s Laura’s Punk/Goth Style: The Wolverines were all Giada Belvisu. When I see the costume, I dance happily. They were great and reminded me of what I wore in my early 20s. I’m 20 years older than Giada, so it’s just to show you how fashion always comes back.

AIPT: We close out, Laura Kinney’s Solicitation: Sabretooth #2 “Landmark X-Villain!” I won’t ask you to ruin who this is, but I ask what it’s like to write this character, and I assume they interact with Laura. All caps are solicited – they have to be a big deal!

Erika: ooooh! Now, the X-Villain has *muffled sounds, heels are dragged to the floor *

Hello, this is John Do from Marvel HQ. Erica can’t come to the computer now.

AIPT: John Doe of Marvel HQ: X-Men Monday’s biggest enemy. Finally, artist Valentina Pinti is taking part in Laura Kinney: Sabretooth. What can you expect from the visuals of the series?

Erica: Valentina and I worked together at Daredevil: Unleashed Hell. If you read the series, you know that she brings action to the page and lots of emotions. Laura didn’t downplay this decision, so she weighs a lot, so Valentina has a lot of acting that is hard to portray, and she nails it every time.

Provided by Marvel Comics

aipt: And we are trying to reveal a few pages of Valentina’s artwork for the series, but before we do, thank you Erica, X-Men for stopping by on Monday! X-Fans, Laura Kinney: Sabretooth #1 will be released on October 8th, 2025.

OK, now exclusive Laura Kinney: Sabretooth #1 page, featuring Valentina Pinti pencils and ink, colours of Rachelle Rosenberg, courtesy of a friend of Marvel.

Next X-Men Monday – September 8, 2025

In the next edition of X-Men Monday, Uncanny X-Men artist David Marquez makes his X-Men Mondey debut and writes his upcoming Age of Level tie-in series, Sinister’s Six.

Also, in case you miss it, the X-Tom Breboat conductor returns to the X-Men on Monday, giving him his own thoughts about the age of revelation – and perhaps he may tease what will come next. So get your burning questions by this Wednesday (September 3, 2025)!

Until next time, X-Fans will remain exceptional!
