Tell me that’s not true, Chip Zdarsky! Today, it was revealed via Zdarsky’s newsletter that he will be leaving Batman with issue #157 (LEGACY #922). That issue doesn’t come out until February 5th, but it’s still sad. This news comes just days after it was revealed that Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb will be replacing Batman in the Hush sequel, titled Hush 2.
Director Zdarsky revealed that he informed DC Comics that he was leaving the series in April, before C2E2. They asked him to stay on for one more story arc in October, which started recently, but that would be the end for the creators.
Zdarsky cited several reasons for his departure, including Ben Abernathy leaving the role of Batman to work on GI Joe in Skybound. This was also necessary because his workload had become too large and something had to be cut back.
“I’m very proud to have made the final episode, but due to scheduling issues we had to do it every other week and unfortunately Jorge wasn’t able to draw everything,” Zdarsky wrote. “But what do you do when other scheduling issues keep you reverting back to monthly? Comics are funny. At some point, we’ve all read things like ‘Financial Quarterly’ and ‘The CEO MacGuffin Has a Plan'” You may be at the mercy of the topic.
You can check out Zdarsky and Jorge Jimenez’s final story arc now, starting in Batman #153. This issue reveals Gotham’s new “hero.” Check him out below.
