The fourth Saga hardcover collection, to be released in April, will include additional material from artists such as Nico Henrichon and Zoe Thorogood, author Brian K. Vaughn announced Saturday at New York Comic Con.
As other artists have illustrated in past Saga hardcovers, Henrichon and Thorogood draw their own interpretations of the book’s familiar characters. Vaughn said this is special because Saga doesn’t do variant covers.
The announcement was made during a panel discussion about Vaughn and Henrichon’s new book, The Spectators (read our review). Specifically, Vaughan said the fourth hardcover book in the saga is expected to be released next year. Issues 10-12 are basically all the issues since the series mid-point hiatus.
In addition, artist Fiona Staples is hard at work on a new Saga manga that will be published next year, Vaughn said.
“The next arc is pretty wild,” Vaughn said.
In response, a member of the audience yelled, “Oh no!”
Perhaps this person is traumatized by the many (many) beloved characters who died in the pages of Saga.
Vaughn took a breath and continued, “This will be Hazel’s most life-changing adventure yet.”
And at that moment, the whole room roared. But it was all in good fun, in a room filled with strangers who like the same sad stories as you, collectively preparing for the worst.
Vaughan also reiterated that the planned endpoint for Saga is #108.
“We are committed to seeing this story through to the end, and it’s coming soon,” he said.
In addition to the Saga news, Vaughn and Henrichon also revealed that their previous collaboration, Pride of Baghdad, will be released in a new 20th anniversary hardcover from Image Comics, featuring Henrichon’s new cover and other extras.
“We’re very proud of that book,” Vaughn said. “And it’s very sad that it continues to be relevant today.”
And of course, much of the panel was spent with the two sharing their insights about The Spectator. You can also read our review on this here (as if I had written it personally…).
