Marvel and Random Houseworld, part of the Penguin Random House family, have published their latest book in their novels in their “Marvel: What’s wrong?” series. Rebecca Podos is currently scheduled to arrive at a nearby bookstore on October 14th, 2025.

An exciting new addition to the “Marvel: What If…” novel series was announced early today on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 at Marvel.com. The officially licensed original novel series has taken a fresh look at the origins of the beloved Marvel superheroes and has rethinked the stories of the origins of Loki, Scarlet Witch and Moon Knight.

Each of these “Marvel: what if…” stories take place in a unique section of the multiverse, giving a seductive twist to the classic Marvel origin story. For example, in Marvel, a novel by Shaunn McGuire: If there was… were Wanda Maximoff and Peter Parker brothers? With McGuire at the helm, fans finally got a tragic and empowering Scarlet Witch origin story.

Marvel: What if… Kitty Pride stole the Phoenix squad? It is also written by the great power YA and adult writer Rebecca Podos. She is best known for her novel, “Novels Like Water,” which won the Lambda Literary Award. Her adult fantasy debut, Homegrown Magic, co-written with Jamie Pakton, is her latest work with a sequel that follows in 2026.

For more information about the book, see the official Random Houseworld description below.

There are so many worlds, little time. It creates infinite possibilities, infinite reality. For a long time I have seen generations of mutants living in a world shaped by the legacy of Jean Gray. But what if. . . Does that legacy have tragically shortened, destined for the future without the X-Men?

What if. . . Do watchers have to do more than they see?

The year is 1990. The X-Men died more than a decade ago. Kitty Pride is not a hero. Emma Frost feared that a mere rebellious teen was kicked out of boarding school, saving Kitty from an obscure presence and being discovered as a mutant. After growing up under the leadership of a white queen, Kitty is a pinnacle of a good species, but she lives alone in a small, desolate apartment, isolated a knife on her back. What is her choice? The world is what it is.

But sometimes Kitty isn’t very sure of that. Sometimes she quickly gets stepped down from her life. Breathing: She is suddenly surrounded by friends she never knew, living an event that never happened. Breathing: It’s all back to normal. Kitty always pushes down these flashes until someone else in her life finds her. This familiar stranger, Betsy Braddock, is a rambling confirmation that something is wrong in their world.

Betsy has a theory of wildness, and if that’s correct, Kitty’s only filming is to change the present, sinking freely into the past. The girls were embedded in the X-Men as they followed a tenuous psychic trail back to Xavier’s school for talented young people in their glory days. There they discover that the inflection point that unravels their future revolves around a particular omega-level mutant destined to become Phoenix. But little is known to Kitty and Betsy, they are not alone in their search.

The year is 1975. Jean Gray has been around for weeks. A whisper is coming. He recruited allies and described all the variables that could be foreseen. He accidentally leaves nothing. He leads this reality to its destiny.

Don’t Miss – Marvel: What if… Kitty Pride stole the Phoenix squad? It will be available on October 14th, 2025 and can be pre-ordered from major bookstores.
