Self-driving taxi company Waymo is coming to Miami, so get ready to have Will Smith songs stuck in your head all day long. Yes, sorry.
Waymo announced its plans for Miami on the official Waypoint blog. The expansion is expected to begin early next year as the company’s self-driving Jaguar I-PACE EV becomes familiar with Miami’s roads and intersections. Later, in 2026, Waymo plans to begin offering ride-hailing services to customers through the Waymo One app.
Waymo is also partnering with African startup Moove as part of its expansion plans. Moove provides vehicles for ride-sharing services. Waymo wants Moove to manage “vehicle operations, equipment, and charging infrastructure” first in Phoenix and eventually in Miami.
According to Google support, the Waymo One app is currently live in parts of San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Austin. Waymo secured $5.6 billion in funding in October to expand into Austin and Atlanta by early next year.
