The true story of how a famous movie star and her ex-husband director were kidnapped by Kim Jong Il and forced to revitalize North Korea’s film industry
The incredibly true story of Choi Eun-hee, a famous South Korean actress who was abducted in 1978 by secret North Korean agents on the orders of the future leader of the movie buff, Kim Jong-il. Six months later, Choi Eun Hee’s ex-husband, movie director Shin Sang Ok, is abducted again. Mr. Choi and Mr. Shin did not know each other’s fate until they met again at a dinner hosted by Kim Jong Il in 1983. Mr. Kim forced Mr. Choi and Mr. Shin to make films such as the infamous monster cult classic “Pulgasari” (1985), convincing the world of all of this. They are willing to serve North Korea. Choi and Shin’s love is slowly rekindled in this reunited captive. Only at the 1986 Vienna Film Festival did they escape, fleeing to the American embassy in a daring car chase.
