Bleeding Cool reports that Dark Horse Comics has published a rocky horror picture show comic in time for the 50th anniversary of the cult musical, and will be written by Magdalene Visaggio (Girlmode, Kim & Kim). Visaggio has confirmed the news on Bluesky and says that it is a sequel entitled Bride of Rocky Horror, and that she composed the music for it.
Visaggio has established that the above track “Seven Years (It Ain a Seasy)” is set seven years after the film, and says it shares the characters of Brad Majors’ characters (played by Barry Bostwick in the film).
Based on Richard O’Brien’s 1973 stage musical, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a horror comedy that tells the story of Brad and his fiancee Janet (Susan Sarandon), and accidentally becomes the guest of the crazy crossdressing scientist Dr. Frank-N-furter (Tim Curry). The film has become a cult classic thanks to countless midnight screenings. In other words, it remains the longest-running theatrical release in cinema history.
It’s particularly appropriate that trans women like Visaggio are writing official sequels, as they have particularly strong support in the LGBT+ community thanks to the camp’s tone and plot. O’Brien wrote a spin-off of a film called Shock Treatment, which was released in 1981 and starred Jessica Harper and Cliff Deyoung as Janet and Brad, but we can see that the comic appears to ignore it as she has never won the same follow (though Bisaggio commented that she was interested in circling two songs).
For more information about Bride of Rocky Horror, we hope it will be released ahead of Comic’s October debut. In the meantime, you can check out the Comic demo tracks on the SoundCloud page of Visaggio’s group Daisy & Jane, and also handle watching the movie itself (such as midnight). (In other words, let’s do a time warp again!)
