Writer Benjamin Percy’s latest Ghost Rider volume concluded the limited series Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance, a wild miniseries that sees The Hood capture the demon Zarathos and strip Johnny Blaze of his powers, but both make sacrifices to restore the status quo. Percy gives the series a strong ending, and now writer Sabir Pirzada and artist Sean Damien Hill continue the legend and legacy of Ghost Rider in this new five-issue limited series. What awaits readers in this adventure?
Marvel Comics
There’s a lot of setup in this issue. The Ghost Rider action you see is perfectly captured in the preview. Get ready to meet Vengeance again, who will be the main character of this issue and likely the Rider’s antagonist. The last time we saw Vengeance was in the “Return of Vengeance” one-shot in 2020. One of the issues I had with that comic was, was Vengeance coming back to… what on earth? Sabir Pirzada might have a great story in store for us with the Vengeance character and the answer to that question. I liked his hook in this issue of a man and a demon splitting up and trying to find each other.
Marvel Comics
The middle section of the comic focuses on what remains of Vengeance and how he went from scaring people for his past sins to living as a scarecrow. The idea is great and a little comical, but it’s a little disappointing that Vengeance’s resurrection was due to teenagers and their anger. However, the second half is effective in explaining why Vengeance must work hard to survive. Sean Damien Hill’s art and Andrew Dalhouse’s colors help make these moments thrilling, and the visuals add a little interest to the issue.
This issue is a little empty, much like Vengeance is right now. Hopefully by issue #2 we’ll find out more about why Vengeance is returning. There are multiple Vengeance spirits and Ghost Riders, but it would be nice to see more attention on the cold calls from Johnny, Danny, Robbie, Hood and Kushal, as there are claims that they are involved in this story. The editor cites Ghost Rider Vol. 2, Issue #52, so there may be clues there worth looking into. Hopefully this slow start will lead to bigger things as this miniseries progresses.
Spirits of Vengeance is a new series focusing on the 90s character Vengeance. What a sad fate for the Spirit. But what is the cause of his new mission? And how do the Ghost Riders fit in? Questions arise in this issue as the groundwork for this new adventure begins to be laid, and it also ties into the past. Will they play a part in the future? The engine is restarted and warming up. Hopefully, it’s going to be a great ride.

I’m happy Vengeance is back and can’t wait to find out his new purpose and how it ties in with the other Spirits of Vengeance.
Vengeance’s sad fate as a scarecrow is a great hook to hint at the dire fate of an underused character.
A miniseries sounds like a great idea, but this issue just isn’t strong enough on its own.
