If you’re looking for something to push through comics media, various crisis events will become your jam. It’s rare to push thought while holding storytelling in a 20-page comic, which continues in various Crisis Events #5. This is all about loops. We prepare to turn the entire comic upside down as we explore the meaning of Dennis Camp and Eric Zawaziki returning.
Assorted Crisis Events #5 begins with pages intended to be read clockwise. In the center of the page, a young girl named Anna experiences her parents fighting and relying on violence. This 60 seconds of trauma will be an instant when Anna relives millions of times. In fact, she is basically aging in her own mind. Camping creates a highly relevant element of all our lives. Especially in young people, trauma is released and not gone away.
From there, the story reveals a girl who can’t get past this 60 seconds. Bound by the weirdness of the series, she literally went through it, and it’s impossible to overcome this. Zawadzki draws many of this problem, reads clockwise, and connects the reader to Anna’s experience. On some pages, the captions are a way of bending along the page, while on others, there is kaleidoscope experience.
The multiple full-page and double-page spreads are absolutely spectacular. In a highly relevant double-page spread, Anna argues that life is generally a series of loops, such as awakening, going to school, or doing it over and over again. Zawadzki conveys this through a circular panel showing that she is going to eat dinner every night, with a small variation. Another shortper is an Infinity symbol that acts as a two-page panel when Anna runs in one direction but returns where she started.
It’s all about trauma.

Scattered throughout the issue are the time travel guys, the sort of mascot of the series, who more or less unite all the stories. Fans of the bigger picture story approve of more information about him and the strangeness of time travel. It’s great to see him get a little more attention after five issues. There are also fun nods to looping movies, such as Palm Springs and Groundhog Day.
The story has several trigger elements, such as suicide and self-harm. It adds a weight that’s too realistic, but you’ll be a bit shocked when they happen. Ultimately, the story relates the concept that we must continue.
Assorted Crisis Events #5 is a masterclass in emotional storytelling and visual experiments, using the comic form itself to explore the inevitable loop of trauma. This is a bold and moving question that carefully reads and reinforces why this series is one of the boldest comics today.
