This summer’s Superman movie featured an instantly iconic scene in which the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) suggests to Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) that “true punk rock” is about trusting people and being kind to everyone. This sentiment quickly won over viewers, and DC is getting in on the action with a new set of covers for the punk rock-themed Superman title. Scheduled to arrive in January 2026, the cover features artwork by Annie Wu, Dave Johnson, Mike Allred, Marguerite Sauvage, Dan Hipp, and Fabrizio De Tommaso.
Below is a list and details of the issues published by DC that feature punk rock variant covers, as well as the artists on each cover.
From safety pins to zine-style slogans, these comic book covers convey the raw energy, DIY spirit, and anti-establishment spirit of punk rock while celebrating the enduring power of Superman, Supergirl, and their friends to stand up, speak out, and fight for what’s right. Kindness is the new punk rock!
Action Comics #1094 – Annie Wu cranks up the distortion, punk rock Superboy slams down an electric guitar mid-solo, amps blare, Attitude set to 11.
Superman #34 – Dave Johnson offers a bold black-and-white zine-style cover with the cry “Kindness is the new punk rock” scrawled across Superman.
Superman Unlimited #9 – Mike Allred goes full anarcho-pop, sticking Superman over a giant anarchy symbol surrounded by safety pins, torn textures, and retro rebellion.
Supergirl #9 – Marguerite Sauvage portrays Kara Zor-El as a punk heroine who is fierce, stylish, and ready to break the mold.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #47 – Fabrizio De Tommaso captures the duo as if straight out of a live performance and ready for a showdown.
Justice League Unlimited #15 – Dan Hipp transforms Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman into punk rock icons with his signature vibrant style: patchwork jackets, wild hair, and all the attitude you can handle.
This is a very energetic variant cover series. Will we see David Corenswet with the Justice Gang tattoo on his sleeve in Superman: Man of Tomorrow? Probably not, but it’s fun to see the idea of Superman being punk rock taken literally on these covers. Expected to arrive in stores in January 2026.
