Samantha has been manipulating poor Monica for the past few issues, apparently trying to deflect blame from her own years of murderous behavior. Even though everything was carefully planned, the breadcrumbs eventually lead back to Sam. So how will Monica react? And will she be able to escape when such a methodical and unscrupulous psychopath is so close to her? Meanwhile, the aftermath of Sam’s long-running secret horror continues to affect the town of Woodbrook in more ways than one. How will they react when they learn that instead of there being a second serial killer in town, she is the first and one of the most trusted members of the community?
Patrick Horvath’s screenplay manages to break the tension here, creating an incredibly eventful and action-packed affair that resolves various plot points in almost completely unexpected ways.
It shouldn’t be a shock to see how prepared Sam is for the consequences of removing his mask, or how willing he is to do anything for self-preservation, but it’s still the same.
One of the saddest aspects of this series is poor Pauline’s grief and subsequent descent into addiction, and even that pays off here.
With only one issue left, I feel like we’re heading towards a shocking ending in some way. Horvath’s script (and stunning art) certainly leaves us readers riveted and unprepared for everything that is thrown at us. Let’s see if Sam can escape again.
