This September, inventor and designer Steve Mushin invites readers to imagine a greener future with ultrawilds. On September 9th, 2025, it will be on the shelf from Graphic Universe™, an imprint of the Lerner Publishing Group. The oversized book is packed with outrageous, scientifically-founded inventions aimed at transforming urban landscapes and tackling climate change head-on.
Mushin’s mission is as bold as it is playful. “To make a leap in innovation, you have to explore ideas that seem ridiculous at first,” he explains. “Even if hit by headlines about the destruction of nature, large-scale rewild projects are rebuilding ecosystems faster than most people believe.
Inside Ultrawild, Mushin dreams of inventions like a habitat printing robotic bird, a sewer submarine that cleans clean waterways, and a compost cannon powerful enough to fire half a mile of seed bombs. In addition to sketching and experimenting, he works with scientists and engineers to explore biomaterials, study ecosystems, and explain how amazingly practical cities can thrive in cities where they are regenerated.
More than just a collection of wild ideas, the book brings the concept of STEM to both children, teens and curious adults, enjoying physics, biology, design and weaving together with possibilities.

“Ultrawild is the power of extreme problem solving tours for kids, teens and others who love big ideas,” says Sean Tulien, editorial director of Graphic Universe. “It is an appealing introduction to the concept of “Rewilding” presented as an extreme stem resource filled with inventions, diagrams, maps and Steve Mushin’s infectious nature. This oversized book is displayed on pages with dog ears stretched out, effectively demanding it be turned and worn.
Ultrawild: A bold plan to rebuild every city on Earth arrives at bookstores on September 9, 2025 from Graphic Universe™.
